Hermitage dance group performs from coast to coast

HERMITAGE — From Orlando to Los Angeles, the stage of the N2MOTION performance dancers is increasing.

N2MOTION is a dance group of about 45 members within Artistry In Motion dance academy in Hermitage.

Artistry In Motion in Hermitage, under studio director Randy Coleman, recently began its 10th season of operation at the end of August.

N2MOTION's continued success in local and regional competitions and performances has gotten them notice.

Part of that season is an invitation for N2MOTION to be Tennessee's delegate at the exclusive 2008 Excellence in Dance in Los Angeles next March. The Excellence in Dance selects one dance academy from each of the 50 states in the United States. There are also representatives from other countries.

"I think it would be really cool if we got to go to there just to see all the styles and genres of dance,'' said N2MOTION dancer Katelyn Ladd, 16.

Coleman said the invitation came in part from good reviews at a competition held in Murfreesboro back in May.

"We want to do it on some level,'' Coleman said of the Excellence in Dance. "It's not a social chance to go to Hollywood. But maybe for our older dancers who have the commitment and passion to make the most of the opportunity.''

Excellence in Dance will be an intense workshop with renowned dance instructors. He believed there would be some performance as well.

Learning different styles has been pushed by Coleman and is one reason for the success of the N2MOTION team.

"Our teacher (Coleman) knows hundreds of other teachers and choreographers around the country and he brings them in,'' said Clint Lasson, a home-schooled high school senior who is one of four males on the N2MOTION team. "You see other teams that are exposed to just one kind of dance and that's all they do.''

This past summer, N2MOTION performed its own 25-minute show in the Magic Kingdom's Tomorrowland section of Disney World on July 4.

N2MOTION was already going to Orlando for the Masquerade Talent Competition that week, and Coleman sent in an audition tape to Disney World. And 15 N2MOTION dancers also participated in a closing night performance with dancers from other teams at Disney World. For Questions or Information please email us at
